Objects embedded in Microsoft Excel spreadsheets give you access to more features and let multiple Office programs work together. Unfortunately, sometimes certain types of embedded objects won't open in Excel because of an error. Microsoft has developed a solution for the problem that you can apply to your computer to restore full access to the application you're trying to start.

The Issue

When you're using Office 2013 without the right patches, it won't open a Word document that includes a floating embedded OLE object. Object Linking and Embedding in Office is a way to copy information between different Office programs. Embedded files are saved in a file as part of the file itself, instead of being added to a file as a separate complete file.

Word 2013 Hotfix

Microsoft developed and released a Hotfix in October 2013 to stop the error from occurring, which means users can use floating embedded OLE objects after installing the fix. Microsoft recommends only installing the hotfix only if necessary, because future Office updates may contain a version that has been more extensively tested.

Installing the Fix

Open the hotfix download page (link in Resources). Click 'Hotfix Download Available,' and then click 'I Accept.' Click the check box next to the version of the hotfix that you want to receive. Enter and confirm your email address, complete the captcha and then click 'Request Hotfix.' Open the email account where you requested the hotfix, open the email from Microsoft and then click on the link to the hotfix. Once the file finishes downloading, click it and then follow the prompts to install the hotfix.

In some cases, Excel will attempt to open a program that you don't have adequate permission to access. If you're not trying to open an embedded Word document with an OLE object, the problem you're experiencing may be due to Microsoft Map. When you attempt to insert a Map file and get the error message, it's because you're not an Administrator or a Power Group User. Another user with the correct access must add you to the group to fix the problem.

Where did you download it from?

I think you have downloaded the operating system ,but it wasn’t successful because the entire application contains more files and folders and not just three files (setup.exe, .box files).

You can go ahead and download the entire application by referring to the below link:

After downloading the Operating System completely to the desktop, run the setup.exe file and follow the onscreen instructions to install successfully.

You can select the version of your choice (upgrade or Full)
