Synopsis
Kim Shin (Gong Yoo) is an immortal goblin who is also a protector of souls. He lives together with an amnesiac grim reaper (Lee Dong Wook) who is in charge of taking deceased souls. Together the two of them sees the dead off into the afterlife. Meanwhile, Ji Eun Tak (Kim Go Eun) is a high school student who despite her painful reality, remains optimistic. She ends up falling in love with the goblin. Kim Sun (Yoo In Na) is an owner of a chicken shop; a bright and attractive girl who is loved by all men.

Great 1st episode of Goblin! Action-packed, funny and teary moments! Hope the drama gets sustained or higher ratings with Korean audiences. But 6.3-6.7% is great for Pay TV drama and would have been included in Top 20 dramas. Of course I am a little bit biased since I am a Gong Yoo fan. But he is really great in action, drama, comedy and romance. Too bad he needed to do his military service at the peak of his career after Coffee Prince. As for Kim Go Eun, she might be a neophyte in drama series, but her movies are award-winning and I really like her in Cheese in a trap which also got good ratings. Fighting Goblin! Good work for the cast and crew!

I do watch GOT and a big fan of GOT, but I dont feel betrayed by this drama tho the scene was quite similar, but it’s not copied.First of all, I’d like to say most of war scenes are quite the same in most movies. It just so happened that the recent epic war scene tht most people know is the battle of bastards. The difference is that they dont have the giants and wildlings. And There’s no war strategy scene. And Goblin was not stuck under dead bodies like Jon Snow. About the sword swaying and sword scene, it’s crucial for the director to emphasize on the sword as it’s a part of the reason why Kim Shin became Goblin.

The relationship between the Reaper and the Goblin makes for an interesting mix. Their banter reminds me of military guys who do it to keep each other always alert and stay alive. So far they’re more interesting than the Goblin romance. Hope it changes soon.
The character of Ji Eun Tak as the bride is spot on as a school girl. It will be interesting to see how the romance develops between a very manly goblin and a girl that is yet to blossom into a real woman.

Alright, I was so convinced that Grim Reaper’s the dead king but because of misinformation from wiki and here about the character and cast made me think the other way. So Kwak Dong Yeon didnt play the young Wang Yeo, but Kim Min Jae instead. Okay..most of people’s prediction might be right then.

Seems writer Kim Eun Sook almost has no flaw in terms of writing romantic comedy or romantic fantasy in it. In some other dramas, you may have seen parents thanking this goddess on childbirth or their kid’s 1st birthday. Since she is a goddess, she can see grim reapers, goblins and ghosts, and she can also change appearance as she wish.

This drama is EXCEPTIONAL on all levels! Beautiful sets, clothes, and scenery in both Korea and Canada make me wish I was there. The acting with perfect comedic timing between the Reaper and Goblin makes them my One true Pair couple. They deserve the bromance award. The storyline is levels above the average kdrama being both funny, adorable and heart breaking with each episode.The secondary couples and supporting characters are very interesting. They have depth and is unusual for a 20 episode drama. The ending will come to fast.

Next couldn’t come fast enough. But I’d rather wait a week for more fulfilling conclusion they offered, rather than drown in a state of despair for months after watching a disheartened one. the episodes i’ve watched so far were well written (and the subs i’ve read were excellent) there’s nothing in the special that i learned more, as it basically tried to explain the relationships of these people, their past lives, etc. if the goblin’s sword is stuck in his body for the longest time, how can he summon his sword to strike when he wants to? did the goblin, in effect, created the goblin bride when he saved eun tak’s mom and let the baby be born? the ‘almighty’ deity and sam shin could have given the goblin the chance to alleviate the punishment much earlier. oh well, it’s a fantasy all right.

Writer Kim Eun-Suk’s male characters in Goblin & Secret Gareden represent more women’s quality than men. Gong Woo & Hyun Bin were more emotional and weak while Kim Go_Eun and Won Ha-Jin play stronger and can-do-all characters. This is called “desensitizing” men by minimizing men and ridiculing men. Also, I have never seen male leads cry so much in this writer’s dramas. Have you noticed writer Kim Eun-Suk’s male characters are often better looking than female leads. For example, Hyun Bin and Gong Yoo are more ‘handsome’ than their ‘cute’ female leads. And male characters in Kim Eun-Suk’s dramas are more dependent on women. If I were actor, I wouldn’t work with this writer. She makes ‘men’ weaker, ‘women’ stronger. Not one gender should be degraded at the expense of another. Whatever came of Hyun Bin after Secret Garden? Ha-Ji Won made hit dramas after Secret Garden, but Hyun Bin? This writer is for female, not male actors. America is in need for real men (known as the alpha males); it seems South Korea too needs less weak and wimpy men in their dramas. Could this writer also stay away from reincarnation, gender crap, after-life witch hunt? Her dramas are dark & uninspiring. This writer’s dramas do well by 1) selecting good actors & actress, 2) using more & better special effects than other writers, and 3) choosing good locations => should we give credit to Good Director’ Work?

Honestly, I would stop at episode 15. That was a good ending for me. I was not expecting the events in episode 16!!! I personally did not think it was necessary. I am not very satisfied with what we got at the end. It wasn’t a sad ending, but still, I wish it was a bit better. Now that this drama is over, I feel sad, dissatisfied, and lonely! I can’t wait to watch what the writer writes next and what Gong Yoo chooses as his next Korean drama project! But seriously though, Gong Yoo is such a handsome man. I enjoyed this drama a lot more because of him. I wish he would be in more Korean dramas! For now, I would like to thank all the Goblin team for creating a spectacular drama. Reasons why I love the writer Kim Eun Sook:-
1) her flair is exactly what I love
2) her romance script is reality plus fairy tale. Too much reality is boring cos we already have reality in our life. I prefer a drama that relieve me from reality.
3) entertaining: the story line and especially the speeches are great and tacky
4) happy ending : it may sound so typical but so what? We laugh and cry buckets with the drama. And then, we rejoice when we see happy ending!My plan for Goblin:-

I am satisfied with the ending. It’s better that way rather than having the sword pulled out in ep 15 and Goblin faced his death and they both reincarnate in ep 16 and happy ending. That’s a lil bit cliche.
I like the writer’s idea on pulling the sword at the end of ep 13, and how Goblin didn’t wanna find peace just because he wanted to be with Eun Tak, and Eun Tak still need to face her fate as missing soul. I also think that the relationship between Sunny and Grim Reaper in that life is impossible as Grim Reaper is Grim Reaper. They both really need to try again in the next life which is what happened.
Kudos to the writer! I’m looking forward for her next project! And congrats Goblin for beating Reply 1988’s rating. Congrats on being the TvN highest rating drama!

well, i congratulate the makers of this drama. from the time that he pulled the sword out of his chest while eun tak still holds it.. the next episodes have been hard to predict and they’ve made a big twist that made this drama the best and also the ending is epic..that eun tak did not forget anything.. maybe she also walks into that desert of snow begging the divinity to come back on earth without the purpose of being the goblin’s bride to pull the sword so that they could live and love each other.

I really enjoyed this drama. The actors were perfect for the parts. The recurrent themes were symbolic of Life and the music and scenery made you feel the story. I have watched a lot of dramas but this one is unique and I hope the people who worked on it realize how special it is. Thank you for making such a beautiful drama.

I watched this drama knowing that its writer is also the one behind DOTS…and again, I was not disappointed. It has a very intriguing yet interesting plot, and along with the beautiful music and cinematography and the good acting of the cast, it was a full package. I won’t be surprised if it also wins big in this year’s drama awards, which the drama truly deserves. ^^

The story is okay. But the more episode i watch, the more i didnt like Ji Eun Tak. She is over acting, and has bad facial expression at all. The expression is not natural. Dont find chemistry with Gong Yoo. Too bad.
